Romania returned the crown on the Coat of Arms
Heraldry
With a law adopted on July 11 2016 Romania has changed its Coat of Arms and on the golden eagle on the shield added the Steel Crown of Romania i.e. the Crown of King Carol I. This restores the pre-communist design of the Coat of Arms from the period of the Kingdom of Romania.
The Steel Crown of Romania is forged of the steel of a cannon which the Romanian army seized from the Ottoman army during the War of Independence (1877-1878). King Carol I of Romania chose steel instead of gold in honor of the Romanian soldiers and their courage.
Romanian authorities should replace the Coat of Arms no later than December 1 2018, which marks the centenary of the Unification of Romania with Transylvania.
