Municipality of Sopishte Got a Heraldic Coat of Arms

Heraldry

At the meeting held on 29.9.2023, the Council of the Municipality of Sopishte adopted a new heraldic coat of arms.

The central symbol of the coat of arms is a stylized representation of the altar of the “Great Mother” found on the territory of the municipality, in the archeological site Cerje in the village of Govrlevo. It emphasizes the long and rich history of the municipality.

Also, on the coat of arms there are grapes and a cherry blossom, as symbols that reflect the viticultural and fruit-growing tradition of the municipality.

An oak wreath is placed around the shield, which represents the oak forests in the municipality, and above it a palisade crown that defines the municipality as a rural municipality.

The authors of the coat of arms are Ivan Nacevski and Jovan Jonovski.

It remains unclear why the municipality did not include selection of a new flag in the competition for the selection of a new coat of arms from March 2023, and how it will use the existing one from now on, given that the old non-heraldic “coat of arms” is displayed on it and the flag does not comply with the vexillological rules and practices.
